Hero Myth

Achilles There was once a great hero called Laneus.  He was one of the coolest heroes in all of history.  He defeated everything that came in his path.  That is why he got his nick-name: The Awesome.  Laneus became famous when he defeated the minutar (man-bull thing) in one second.  He is now a great figure in history.

Digital Footprint

Just about the only website I have ever joined is facebook.  My friend made it for me even though I didn’t want it.  I never get on because I don’t have the time.  the only thing I told them that I remember is my name and my email address.

When I googled myself I didn’t find that much probably because I am a minor and they have to get my mom or dad’s permission.  The only thing I found was a lot of the stuff that I have done at my church.  I have played sports all my life but they weren’t major like AYSO or highschool (mostly because Ihaven’t gone to highschool yet), but they were stuff like baseball at fern gully.  My team won the park champianship a lot but it never got in the papers.

I am probably leaving behind a lot of stuff about me and will be for the rest of my life.

Blog Avatar

I chose this as my avatar because My blog name is toothless granny.  I got on http://www.wimpyourself.com/ and I did my best to create something that somewhat looked like a toothless granny.  I really hope yall like it as much as I did.

A Modern Hero

I think that someone that volunteers to protect people are modern heroes such as firefighters, police officers, and ambulance drivers.  For example, firefighters give there lives to protect people.  If there is a fire and someone is trapped in the burning building then they will go inside and help get you out safely.  This shows courage.  Police officers have to arrest people who threaten the safety of others.  This shows justice because they have to decide if someone is doing some thing bad and arrest them.  Ambulance drivers have to get to where people have gotten hurt and take them to the hospital.  They have honor because they have to get the people that are hurt to the hospital safely and quickly;this could be a life or death situation.  That is who I think is a modern hero.

This is a picture of a fire truck putting out a fire. It is heroic because they are risking their lives to help people.

Qualities of a Hero

I think that the qualities of a hero are courage, honor and justice.  King Arthur had all of these qualities.  When he found out that he was to be king he had courage and did his duty.  He also was very honorable because he was wise in most things he did.  He had justice because whenever he had to decide something he did the right thing.  I think that those are some of the main qualities of a hero.

Invictus

By Ernest Henley

“Out of the night that covers me,
Black as the Pit from pole to pole,
I thank whatever gods may be
For my unconquerable soul.

In the fell clutch of circumstance
I have not winced nor cried aloud.
Under the bludgeonings of chance
My head is bloody, but unbowed.

Beyond this place of wrath and tears
Looms but the Horror of the shade,
And yet the menace of the years
Finds, and shall find, me unafraid.

It matters not how strait the gate,
How charged with punishments the scroll.
I am the master of my fate:
I am the captain of my soul.”

In the poem Invictus it talks about how a man has courage and fights for what he believes in.  I think that Mandela did that in the movie.  Mandela gets elected the president of South Africa.  He gets his rugby team to win the world cup after getting out of jail.  In doing that he brakes a big barrier in the racism in South Africa.  It was very hard but he still had courage when the odds were against him and persevered in the end.

Nelson Mandela and Martin Luther King Jr. Comparison

I think that Mandela had a lot more courage than MLK Jr.  Mandela lived in a country whose government was corrupted when MLK Jr. lived in a country whose people were corrupted.  Mandela’s government was corrupted and he went up against his government and went to jail for 28 years making him separated from his family like it said in the excerpt from his book.

MLK Jr. went up against the people in his country.  He went to jail for short amounts of time and the federal government got him out because he was put in jail unjustly.  He did not get separated from his family near as much as Mandela did.  They still were both against segregation between white people and black people.  They both protested  to end segregation in there country against blacks.

Black Mirror

The author of Black Mirror is Nancy Werlin. Werlin grew up in Peabody, Massachusetts. She was the youngest of three daughters. She began reading when she was three. By the time Werlin reached third grade, she was reading as many as ten books a week. After graduating from high school, Werlin attended Yale University, where she majored in English. She has written eight books that I know of.
